"Trit Treat"

"Trit treat, trit treat!" We heard this at every single house we went to tonight and I never got tired of hearing it. Spence and Jaidyn had a blast going out in their costumes and Spence kept saying "no home, no home". After the very first house we went up to and got lots of candy, Spence turned around and said "Momma, more trit treat, more trit treat!" and at the same time I was holding Jaidyn and she was signing "more". Spence was so excited about his "firetruck man" costume (that is what he called it) and the fact that it came with a siren that sounded just like a firetruck. The little kids around us would say here comes the fireman boy. It was pretty funny and I really liked it because I always new where he was in the dark. Jaidyn also loved going up to the doors to get her candy too, and we actually learned tonight that she is a little on the greedy side. She was always trying to stick her hand back in the candy bowl for seconds. All in all it was a great night out and the kids only got scared at a couple of costumes going up for candy at the same time with them, but Spencer and I were pretty sure those trick-o-treaters were DRIVING too.

We really could not NOW be more excited to be pregnant with baby #3. At first it was a little shocking and crazy for us but, we knew we wanted more children and God continues to bless us. After having such a hard time getting pregnant with Spence and going through the fertility process, you learn that each time it happens on its own, it's truly a miracle and blessing. We are NOT complaining and we realize that we are currently in a fast pace mode with having children. At our last doc appt we also found out that we are currently 90% sure it is a BOY. This is even more exciting for Spencer and I because we really wanted to sandwich Jaidyn in between two brothers. It works out great for us and will hopefully make our life's a little easier one day.

I decided that God was trying to tell me something when I started off my last 5K on the pavement. There was a little boy that knocked over the man beside me and into me and made the man in front of me brake, which caused the man behind me to step on my heels, and lets just say the knees did not look pretty. That will be my last race until baby #3 arrives. I know you all didn't think, "last baby"? Ask me after #3 gets here:) It's was definitely a good race and I still finished with my best time ever, 25:35 and came in second in my division. Spence also decided to do the 1 mile fun run and we had a good time running that together. I think I can see the passion of running in him, maybe. I hope. He's a great runner already and loves being outside anyway. This race was also special to Spencer and I because it was the first race that our dental office has sponsored locally. We received "sponsor" shirts and got a beautiful marble plaque for that too. The Marble Festival is a full day of races, parades, and festivities for all ages. We look forward to doing this again!

Here are a few videos of Jaidyn and Spence. The first one is of Jaidyn walking in the leaves for the first time and Spence playing with his mower. This is 2 1/2 weeks after she has started to walk. Another is when Jaidyn decided to climb in one of her toys that was actually suppose to be for her baby doll to sit in. She still thinks it is for her, but can't quite figure out why she keeps getting her legs stuck:) The last one on youtube is Jaidyn working on her ABC's and some of her words she likes to say. The other night Spencer and I were talking briefly about how busy we stay and how it really makes time fly by, but we also agreed that it's worth it. We both really enjoy taking Spence and Jaidyn to see and experience new adventures. Sometimes I really hate the fact that I can't capture all the initial reactions on camera. Most of the time, their faces and comments are priceless and you can't ever relive it, except in your mind and in conversation with each other. We've had a lot of fun lately doing a lot of new and exciting things, especially now that Spence understands more of the conversations that Spencer and I have. For example, when he overheard us talking about going to the TN/FL football game, he insisted on going. Truly insisted, until we finally said okay. We loved taking him and tailgating at the stadium. He got to do something I know you all would love to do:) He loved watching the band go by right in front of him, literally within 2-3 feet, while we sat and watched outside the stadium on the curb. We all 3 got to sit together the entire game which was really exciting and lots of fun for us too.

Spencer and I also took our kids to the rodeo. They had a lot of fun and Spence loves to talk about it. He calls it the "yodeyo". They let all the kids go out in the middle to jump in a big pile of hay and search for hidden toys. Spence also got to ride a what he called the "cow choo choo" which was pretty funny to watch. Both of them enjoyed dressing in their boots and seeing all the real cowboys and cowgirls. It was good family fun and definitely a true adventure for all of us. Now we are getting excited to take the kids to get their passports so that we can make a trip to Alabama for Adi's 1st birthday party!!! Can't wait to see our cousins:)

What an absolute crazy year for our family. Adding 2 to the mix was such a treat and both of our kids have such unique personalities. They are different in every way, including looks! Some things we would love to share about Jaidyn are:

she is definitely a daddy's girl and gets a big smile on her face every time she sees him and then she will crawl as fast as she can to him so he will pick her up (it's pretty sweet)

she has the most beautiful dark skin and big brown eyes

she can already say lots of words and make animal sounds

she has to be the fastest crawler in the universe b/c she won't walk yet letting go and has been crawling since 7 months

she sleeps good and rides in the car good

she's gotten sick a whole lot more than Spence did his first year and it's been very sad and hard to watch

she loves the lake and the beach

she loves to go for walks and jogs

she doesn't really like getting dressed, you have to be very fast
she loves her milk and is a pretty good eater most of the time

she loves her big brother and smiles every time he goes in with me in the morning to get her out of bed

she loves taking a bath with Spence and says "bath tub" when we walk in the bathroom

she LOVES being pushed in the tot rod by Spence

she already tries to take whatever Spence has that he is playing with, and vice versa, of course!
she's been called everything from mexican, indian, blaxican, to "this must be Alisha's daughter"! I admit she doesn't look a thing like me, but she does have her momma's persistence and stubbornness:)

Jaidyn's 1st Birthday Bash!

Spencer and I decided to go ahead and have Jaidyn's birthday party this past weekend since we had several close friends and family going out of town Labor Day weekend. Saturday turned out to be a perfect day and the weather was beautiful. Everyone enjoyed being outside and the kids had a blast running around in the yard. Jaidyn really seemed to love having so much attention and gave everyone her little grin as they would walk by and talk to her. We started off the party with yummy BBQ and side dishes, then our funny clown lady showed up. I must say, although she looked a little sketchy, the kids LOVED her and getting lots of fun shaped balloons! After opening gifts, we headed to cut the cake. Honestly, I thought Jaidyn would love digging in the cake as much as she loves playing in the dirt and picking grass, but I was wrong. It was the only time during her party that we saw her tune up. She was actually okay picking at the cake with her fingers, but it was when she put it in her mouth that she started to get upset. I guess she didn't like the cake, but she loved the icecream and ate it all up. We love this beautiful little girl and can't believe she will be turning 1 this week. She has such a fun personality, she has lots of patience, and when 8:30 P.M. rolls around after a long day playing with Spence, Jaidyn has checked out and ready to go to bed! Thanks to all those who came to share this wonderful time with Jaidyn and our family:)

After not much thought Spencer and I decided to take a trip somewhere to celebrate 5 years of wonderful marriage. We decided this trip would just consist of THE TWO OF US! I initially wanted to go back to the same resort in the Bahamas where we went on our honeymoon, but Spencer easily convinced me to go to Jamaica. He found the perfect all-inclusive resort through Sandals called Royal Caribbean. We spent the entire week being pampered and spoiled with great service and really good food.

The weather was perfect the entire time and the beach was absolutely gorgeous. We had our own little lagoon outside of our room and enjoyed room service for breakfast several times, snack time and one night for dinner. For some fun activity we went kayaking, rode the aqua cycles, and of course, snorkeling. We also enjoyed playing games of checkers, scrabble, and shooting pool. There was an island in direct view of our resort that was just for us and we spent an entire day on the island to which Spencer and I had the pool to ourselves 90% of the day, along with excellent service. It was truly a relaxing and much needed time away for both of us and without a doubt strengthened our marital bond and love for each other. Spencer and I have both always known that God crossed our paths on purpose to bring us together and we are more than ever grateful for that. He is a terrific husband that leads this house with honor and hard work. Spencer is an even better father who desires to spend every second of his time home with his children and provide for them. More than anything though, he my best friend and I love calling him mine!

1st Family Trip To The Beach

Spencer and I finally decided that it was time to head to the beach with the kids. We decided to go to Myrtle Beach, where we knew the water would be safe and it was close enough that we could drive there. All in all, the kids and us, had a blast! Trips are definitely more fun when your kids are happy and like what they are doing. We really weren't sure how Spence or Jaidyn would like the sand or the ocean, but as you see, there was not one ounce of complaining except when it was time to go back to the room.

Our trip started out a little crazy when Jaidyn and I spent the entire first day there at the ER. We knew she was not 100% when we left to go, but definitely not anything at the time that would have made us stay home. We left Wednesday evening and by Thursday she was not able to keep anything down. There was explosive nastiness coming out both ends and that is putting it lightly. We destroyed a Zaxby's, I-HOP, Miyabi's, ER waiting room and several outfits all in a 2 day period. When I called the pediatrician they told me to start giving her pedialyte, but she could not keep that down either. It was coming back out within seconds. They then said to immediately get her to an Urgent Care facility. So that morning of arrival we took her over to Urgent Care, who sent us to Doctor's Care because she was too young for them to see her. As soon as we arrived there they got her back immediately and told me that either we can drive her over to the hospital ER or the ambulance could take her. I called Spencer, who in the mean time was taking Spence on over to a beach somewhere (b/c hospitals are not the place for healthy 2 y.o.'s) and told him to come back and pick me up again. They sent us over to the nearest hospital and the most ran down, that was obviously for out-of-towners only. I didn't care at the time, I just wanted her taken care of. I get in there and tell them what is going on and they tell me to get a number and wait! I was, needless to say, NOT HAPPY, but I did it...up until Jaidyn started throwing up on me in the waiting area and could not even hold her head up. I was definitely getting worried at this point. She threw up all the way to the nurses station and I told them she needed to be seen immediately. They asked me to step out b/c it was a sterile center and let her finish throwing up in the bathroom, as they handed me a plastic container for her. I admit, I lost it a little, but I was next to be seen. Oh well! Once they got her back, I admit, she was well taken care of and we were able to leave that evening around 5:30. She was diagnosed with gastroenteritis, which was a 4-5 day virus, and they put her on some medication. The vomitting stopped by that evening and the explosive poop stopped 4 days later. It was crazy.

In the mean time, Spence loved his day at the beach and everyday after. She did too and you would have never known she was not feeling well. She's a trooper and going to be a very tough girl! Jaidyn loved to try to eat the sand and I really thought that after the first bite of it, she would stop, but no. I had to constantly keep her hands out of her mouth and watch her. Spence loved playing with his beach toys and everyone else's. He loved going out into the waves with his daddy and was not scared at all of the ocean. We will definitely be making a trip to the beach at least once a year!

More Family Fun In Wedowee!!!

We celebrated the 4th of July in Alabama this year with lots more family! It was so much fun getting the chance to see Dick and Aurelia, Angelia, and Hannah with her 3 kids. We all piled in Robert and Doreen's cabin, along with the Thornton's too. There was fun and games, swimming, boating, and of course, eating! Spence ended up becoming good friends with Ava, who wanted him to do lots of things that he just didn't really understand how to do. For example, SIT for longer than 2 minutes. She really wanted him to sit next to her during the fireworks, but he was so excited he ran around in circles most of the time. They loved the fireworks and eating smores again! It was also nice to hear humorous stories of Doreen and her siblings growing up and how their parents handled certain situations versus how they are now. I didn't have a sister growing up, but could only imagine the additional drama and excitement that would have added to my life! Being around family is one of my favorite things to do, especially when you don't get the oppurtunity to see them that often. It's great to have so many different personalities in one house, and watch them all come together to be united.

Although it's almost been a couple of weeks since we left the lake, we still remember our fun time that we had with the family. I felt like when I got home, there were lots of "first" that I need to write down. Jaidyn cut 3 teeth that week, can walk holding on to things while pushing them, she can now drink through a straw, and can throw her arms above her head to show you "Y", as in "YMCA", the song. Thanks Bayley! Spence can now swim on his own with a life jacket on, jump into the water with no help, and he can say lots of fun new words. Lindsay's right though, as far as getting into the middle of Trey and Nate's business, he mostly would just sit, watch, learn, and then start his own trouble. They all had a great time playing together and it was so fun watching the babies play too. We look forward to going back for the 4th of July!

Summer Fun

I absolutely love summertime and being outdoors. We've already gotten into some busy activities with Spence and Jaidyn and have enjoyed watching a lot of "first" for them. They have been troopers for us while we spend some time on the road. Spence has enjoyed his first visits to the library for story time. Now that Kindermusik is on a short break until summer session begins, I'm still trying to get him to be involved in some kind of activity that requires him to follow instructions. As you see in the picture, he still doesn't get the concept to "sit down" for stories, but we're working on it. Jaidyn, on the other hand, is crawling now, so she just goes where she wants to, but will usually stay real close by her mama. It's a lot of fun and Spence loves the part where he gets to pick out what books he wants to check out and take home. He's got his own library card and can check out up to 30 books at a time. We stick to 4 for him and he will pick out 1 for Jaidyn. We've also started swim lessons on Saturdays that will go for the next 4 weeks. They LOVE it! Spence has already been chosen to do more advanced training, so he was real excited about that and Jaidyn has fun kicking and splashing in the water. This does concern Spencer and I though, because they love it too much and Spence is not scared one bit of the water. We've decided to keep the pool covered at the house until we get a gate put up that will lock. At swim lessons he was trying to get me to let go of him, so he could swim on his own. Not happening! Spencer and I have really enjoyed spending time with the two of them and watching them grow and learn.

Life is so fun at 8 months!

How truly wonderful life really is at 8 months old. Jaidyn is getting such a fun personality and beginning to show the true characteristics of a female. She knows what she wants and when she wants it, or doesn't want it, and will quickly let you know about it. It's been an exciting month watching her grow and try new things each day. She's very brave and adventurous like Spence, and sometimes too much. I have to constantly keep my eyes on her because she's now beginning to crawl and become very busy with EVERYTHING she can get to. We also not only have a very mobile little girl, but she is also extremely vocal. She is such a jabber box and loves to babble all the time! It's so fun and we love listening to Spence and Jaidyn carry on their own conversations sometimes, especially when they are making each other laugh. It's great.

Jaidyn's check up went really well and she now weighs 18 lbs 7 oz. She is 28 inches long and still has a big head! Overall, she's perfect!

It is unbelievable, but true. My little man turned 2 years old April 10 and we had a great time celebrating his birthday. At first I wasn't sure how he was going to respond to so much excitement, but he naturally threw himself in the midst of everything. No holding back! I'm not sure if it's just a little boy thing, or just being 2, but he was full speed the entire party. He loved everything from the balloons to the ghetto helicopter cake that was amazingly still standing to the end of the party. The Easter egg hunt was a big success, but he still hasn't gotten the concept of putting the eggs in the basket when you find them. He wants to hold all the eggs and then gets frustrated when he starts to drop one. Thank goodness for cargo shorts! BUT the big hit of the party was the pinata. The kids absolutely LOVED it and everyone had a turn to hit it. It was so fun to watch their faces and the intensity behind every swing. They were all determined to bust it. However, when Austin finally popped it good and the candy came flying out, Spence didn't run up to get the candy, he ran to check and see what happen to the helicopter. His face was priceless. He was not sure what just took place and was very concerned about his helicopter. The pinata may just become a traditional event at his birthday parties.

He is such a precious boy and I can't begin to describe in words how thankful I am to call him my son. Some things that we've enjoyed watching this past year...

Our Mornings...

I've not always been a morning person, especially going through dental school, but when Spencer and I started having children, well, let's just say, that quickly changed. I know this will sound a little sappy, but who cares...I love going in to get my kids out of their beds in the mornings when they wake up. They would make anyone become a morning person. They usually wake up happy and full of life. Spence does his helicopter sounds and Jaidyn plays and practices her different new voices. I won't babble on about it, but I love seeing those beautiful smiles:) There's truly not a day that goes by that I realize how grateful I am to our Lord Jesus Christ for blessing me with two beautiful children and giving me the abilities to care for them. I never take the word "mom" for granted and thank God everyday for that calling.

Spence at Kindermusik

Here's Spence in full action at Kindermusik Monday night. We go once a week and it's becoming so much fun for both of us. He's learning lots of new things like to share, not to throw everything he picks up, he has to sit for story time, follow directions for each song with the motions, and not to open the closet door where he knows the balls are located. I love watching him interact with other children and he's quickly getting out of his shy mode when we walk in. He's so much fun and I love our playtime together. I've never seen anyone more intense and focused on what he's doing.

Celebrating 6 And 23 Months With Brownies and Icecream!

Although our kids are still getting bit by the sick bug, we continue to try to find ways to make them cheerful. Nothing else could do that better than icecream! It is quickly becoming one of Spence's favorite treats, and Jaidyn likes it too. Now whenever I open the freezer door, he is quick to point to what he wants, and of course yell "Bah buh bah". As far as the talking goes for Spence, he is FINALLY picking up on some new words. It's so refreshing and fun to practice with him. Spence also started a Kindermusik class a few weeks ago and LOVES IT. I really enjoy taking him and watching him interact with other kids and playing all kinds of fun instruments. I also think it has motivated him to want to try to talk more since our neighbor takes her little girl who is already saying lots of words and is only 18 months old. Spence has lots of fun with her, but not half as much fun as he has with Jaidyn. She is becoming so strong and hardly falls at all while sitting up now. She grabs everything in sight and has started to cut teeth now. Whoever reads this and is the first to respond with the correct answer to the question on the picture above, I will send you a fun surprise. Jaidyn is so much like her daddy. She looks like him, is impatient like him, and gags like he does on everything. I'm so thankful I don't have that problem and I totally feel for people who do.

Surviving Winter!!

SO SORRY for the blog slacking lately. It has been too long and with way too much to tell about. I don't think I ever recall having such "spring fever" in my life. This winter season has pretty much been full of sick kid, sick kid, and oh...SICK KID. I am quickly becoming a believer of the idea that having two kids means having a LOT more sickness in the house because it will get passed back and forth. It's seems as though I'm always 2 coughs too late to tell Spence "cover your mouth", like he understands, or even reaching over to try to cover it for him, as I notice cough, sneeze, and spit residue flying across the room, and usually in the direction of Jaidyn. And Jaidyn, at one doctor's appointment was diagnosed with strep, low oxygen levels and given breathing treatments, ear infection, and vomitting.Both of them have been sick off and on, more on, this entire winter and man, we are just sick of it.

Although we're dealing with some ailments here and there we still stay pretty busy and as some of you know having 2 kids under the age of 2 can definitely be rewarding and exciting, but can also make things pretty crazy sometimes. On a positive note we have two beautiful children and there's absolutely never a dull moment in our house. Just call me any given day before 2 p.m. and you will know what I'm talking about. Spence continues to amaze us with his curiousity and sweet spirit, especially with his little sister. He is well on his way now to being potty trained and lets just say that it has been a very challenging, yet a teachable moment for Spencer and I. I suggest if you're interested in trying to build patience, then take up potty training. If not, stay away! Jaidyn is our very busy little girl. She is constantly kicking her legs, grabbing anything and everything in sight, and continues to jabber up a storm. If you put her down on the floor, she immediatly rolls to her stomach. She's not crawling yet, but she is very mobile. She's a lot of fun and I would say although she doesn't look a bit like her momma, she's much like her momma in personality because she won't sit still for one minute.

Here are quickly some other things that have taken place with us:

We've had a couple of nice snowstorms that Spence has been able to get out and play in. He loves sledding with his daddy.

Spence is cutting 2 molars on top, and only 2 more to go!
We finally had Jaidyn dedicated and decided although everyone but me was sick, including Spencer who was running a fever all day, we were going to do it anyway. We left immediately after the prayer. This sickness stuff is sooo getting old! But everyone survived and she was so precious :)
Jaidyn has decided to skip the sippy cup and go straight to a big cup! She's got such a strong personality and it is so adorable
Spence is going poopie and pee pee in the potty and it is great! We love that boy!! He's turning into such a BIG helper in the kitchen too. He loves to cook!
Spence will turn 2 years old in April (unbelievable) and Jaidyn will be 6 months on March 1st

Whewwww!!! 3 Months Already!

We honestly can't believe Jaidyn is 3 months old and Spence turns 20 months tomorrow. Someone asked me the other day, at what point do you stop using "months" in referring to their age and start using "years", and why? I told them, for me, I was NOT ready to make that transition yet, b/c I felt like if I could still say months, then I still felt like he was still my baby boy. The other just makes them seem bigger and older. Spence's day is coming, and coming soon, but until then I will still consider him my baby boy. We've had so much fun and as each day passes things get easier and easier. I also realize more and more that those two are going to be big buddies. Don't get me wrong, we still have our meltdown moments, but in the end he knows his momma loves him just the same:)

2 Months Old

Our sweet baby girl is now 2 months old and is doing great. Spencer and I took Jaidyn and Spence to the pediatrician Friday for vaccinations and checkups. It was a little crazy, but everyone survived. Jaidyn weighs 12 lbs 1 oz and is in the 72 % of weight. She is 24 1/4 in. long and is in the 93 % in height. (I still think she was suppose to be Alisha's baby!!) We are so excited for her and the only thing she is suffering from due to vaccines is a little stuffy nose. This was a complete opposite check up compared to when we took Spence at this age. He was down below the 10th percentile and we were beginning to be a little concerned, so this was nice for us to here for her check up.

Spence on the other hand was not able to get any vaccines and ended up leaving the doctors office with an ear infection, wheezing, and beginning to start a fever. Although he weighs 29 1/2 pounds, which was in the 86%, it is still sad when your kid won't eat. His height was 34 1/4 and that checked out in the 88 %. By Saturday afternoon he had 104 temp and vomitting. Not a good weekend for the little man. He was put on antibiotics, motrin/tylenol, and breathing treatments. The treatments were a different experience for him, but like everything else, he is adjusting well. Hopefully we won't have to do them much longer. On top of all this, Sunday was suppose to be Jaidyn's baby dedication, which we had to cancel. It was a long weekend, but Spence is slowly getting better and we are praying everyday that Jaidyn stays healthy.

Halloween Fun in the Rain

Although we never had a dry minute for trick-o-treating, it was still a very fun night to take Spence out on the town. He loved every second of all the attention he was getting from everyone! I must say though, his favorite part of the night was not all the candy, but getting to sit on the fire truck. We saw the fire truck at the town square, but did not stay there long. It was a little much for mama and I was ready to head out of town to do some traditional house-to-house treating. It was much nicer and the candy was better too. Jaidyn was a trooper too and pretty much slept through her first halloween. But she was still the cutest lady bug out there!

Trip To Memphis

I must say we have the best kiddos in the world. We took an 8 hour trip to Memphis (one way) there and 8 back, and they did great. We only had to watch Barney 4 times...one way! And 3 on the way back home. Oh well. You learn quick as parents that whatever makes your kid smile and happy on a long road trip, you will do. It's funny though that as you try to plan around "nap time", when it came time for him to go to sleep...uh no. He only took a 30 minute nap!

We had a great time visiting family and anyone would love seeing your grandfather holding a precious little baby and an energetic boy hanging off the side of him. Granddaddy was a trooper and we got to see him for a couple of days while we were there. We also went over to my aunt Carol's house to visit with my cousin and her daughter, Hollynn. She was the one who stayed with us over the summer break while her mom went through surgery. It was a nice visit and so good to see them. They were in desperate need of cheering up and there's nothing better than a newborn baby to do that. Spence and Jaidyn had a great time and brought lots of smiles and laughter to the room. It was a much needed trip for us and we packed more into one day than we ever imagined possible, but well worth it. We loved seeing aunt MaryJane and we appreciate the generosity of my aunt Bev and uncle Frank letting us stay with them. It was so nice to have the opportunity to see all of my family.

Football Time In Tennessee!

Although our season has not been the best, it still feels good to beat Geogia, and actually witness it in person. I get to celebrate for a WHOLE YEAR!!! Spencer and I went to the game Saturday and I went with feelings of anxiety and nervousness for the vols, especially after they got beat by Auburn last weekend, at home. They played the best they have played all season on Saturday and I believe Georgia played the worst from all season. It was as you can see in Spencer's face, not a good day for Uga. It was "uga-ly" for the bulldogs, but I must say we enjoyed our time together and loved being in that football atmosphere again.

Jaidyn is 1 Month Old

Who needs to be in the jungle for a month, when I can star in my own "Survivor" show right here in my own house. We have made it and still happily chugging along together. I've survived 1 crazy month, but more importantly, my two beautiful children are still alive and kickin'. It's seriously been a wonderful month of baby bliss and big brother Spence is hanging in there. He loves his little sis, but right now playing outside still comes first! I'm still trying to get on that thing called a "routine", but haven't quite made yet. However, Jaidyn is doing great and growing more and more everyday. She is starting to smile a lot and lets me know when she need some attention. We have finally gotten our results back from all of her extra testing and she has passed everyone of them. We are excited and feel very blessed to have such a healthy baby girl, but have considered now calling her "Mo" due to the fact she's losing her hair, except that cute little streak down the center. And don't forget the curl on top!

Welcome Baby Jaidyn

We have finally gotten Miss. Jaidyn Leigh home and settled into her new enviroment. She is now 3 weeks old and the time passes unbelievably fast. Honestly, my initial thought was that once Spencer went back to work, the days would be long, exhausting, and slow. What was I thinking?

We are so grateful to everyone for all you did to help us with Spence and for bringing food. All of the meals have been very delicious and Spence quickly went back into his normal routine. We also appreciate the phone calls and visits. The meals have all been very delicious. It really helped us make the transition easier from one child to now two. Spencer decided to take the first week off that we brought her home, and we were both so grateful for that. Although Spence has done really well, it allowed Spencer the chance to give him the extra attention that he needed. We have really enjoyed watching Spence with Jaidyn and seeing his curiousity unfold. We are, however, praying that she won't lose an eye or come out of her chair one day. He has to be watched VERY closely and at all times. At this point, all is well and both continue to change everyday and grow too fast. I can see now that we are going to have lots of fun!

The Ellijay Fair and My Garden

We are still waiting for this little girl to join us and have been trying to do lots of motivating things to initiate labor, but no go. Even taking Spence to the fair and riding some rides didn't work! It was still worth going though because he had a blast. It was so fun for Spencer and I to watch him and see his face light up and have looks of amazement watching all the rides. He rode the choo choo train, the airplanes, carousel, went down the big slide with daddy, and lots more. He even watched his mom shoot basketball to win an Uga. Yes, an Uga. For those of you not sure who Uga is... it is the Georgia mascot. Unbelievable huh. The things you do for your kids, but trust me there will be a Smokey joining him soon:) We had a great time!

We've also been busy playing ball outside, messing around in the flower garden, and Spence has even helped me with my garden decor to make a garden stone. It was fun to do this project with him. This year has been better than previous ones, however, I still don't have that green thumb like my mom. I wish I did, but every year gets a little better. I will definitely miss those beautiful flowers blooming as winter slowly approaches. Winter...can you believe it?

Ready for number 2!

At this point we are just at that sit and wait point that just about can drive you crazy! The wait part is what it is, but let's be real, I'm doing anything but sitting. This baby girl will be here anytime and I find myself continually thinking of things I need to do to be overly ready. If she did come, yes, we're ready, but having laundry caught up, the house clean, the nursery and Spence's new room as organized as possible, bags packed for the hospital, camara's ready and charged, okay you get my point. OVERLY READY! It doesn't hurt.

We are also in the process of moving the dental practice to a new building. I will post pics as soon as the office is complete. It's very exciting and to be honest we are really glad she decided not to come this past weekend. Spencer has been working extremely hard to get as much done as he can and it looks as if we could definitely open the office back up on Tuesday. Very exciting for both of us and it really looks good.

Some additional thoughts I would like to share about this pregnancy as we know the BIG DAY approaches us soon...

Not finding out your pregnant until 10 weeks into it is fabulous and this pregnancy has absolutely flown by

I've really enjoyed this pregnancy and have been amazed at how different it was from carrying Spence, COMPLETELY DIFFFERENT, but not having to go to the specialist every 2 weeks and the OB once a month sure did help

The upside...she moved a lot and I truly enjoyed every second of it, she just started having the hiccups 2 weeks ago, I gained plenty of weight and swelled, but not as much as before, I have the nursery ready and getting even more excited to have a girl on the way

The downside...these early contractions are NOT friendly and the physical pain they cause is very scary, I can cry over just about anything at this point and being an emotional person is not for me, losing lots of sleep, nothing fits this body anymore!!

Anxiety level is rising everyday thinking about having two kids 16 months apart, but the excitement level is beyond imaginable

Working until 36 weeks was great for me and I loved every second of it. We have a wonderful team down there and great patients. They have all been very understanding and supportive, especially towards the end when I moved a little bit slower

One thing I've learned about myself that I hope will make me a better mom is knowing my limitations, it's never easy for me to stop and say "I'm done", but finding out after it's too late isn't fun either. My goal is to know before.

Praying for a smooth delivery and healthy baby girl, praying the (+) Strep B will not cause any complications for the baby or myself, and praying we don't go into labor in the middle of the night!

Let me just quickly share one more thing. Spence is an absolute gift from God. I don't know how we got so lucky, and trust me Spencer and I ask ourselves that question everyday, but there is not a day that passes that we don't thank our Heavenly Father for that special child that belongs to us. We know he's going to be a great BIG brother, and in time, we will all adjust to adding another precious miracle to our family. Our Sunday School teacher quoted Charles Swindoll the other day and man it really stuck with me. "EXPECT NOTHING, APPRECIATE EVERYTHING." So simple, yet so true with everything in life.

Spending time with cousin Hollynn

What can I say, but it was sooo nice to have Hollynn here to stay with us a bit this summer. Sometimes I felt like I had my own personal nanny right there beside me at all times, and I know Spence really enjoyed seeing a new face around the house. She entertained him and he entertained all of us! It's amazing that even a 15 month old wants to show out in front of house visitors.

Of course we stayed busy the entire visit, but we were very productive. We got a pedicure, her hair cut, her teeth cleaned and filled, went swimming, went shopping at Justice ( that was a new adventure for myself), and went to American Girl Doll Boutique at the mall, another new adventure for me and NO ONE IS TO TELL OUR DAUGHTER ABOUT THIS PLACE, and she came to work with me a couple of days! It was a hard time, but we managed :) We truly enjoyed having her stay with us and miss her very much. Thanks Hollynn for all your help with our little man! We love you.

He's changed so much since his first birthday and I'm learning a lot about this amazing person. We are loving spending every minute with him and waiting to see what he's going to do next. And just so you know, he's finally getting his "tude". He is very normal and has his little, or big, tantrums when he feels like it. Sometimes I can't help but laugh at him. Oh well.

We've been teaching Spence lots of new stuff this month, but this has to be one of the funnest for me. He now tries to turn on his own without me telling him to "turn around", but sometimes he needs a little more instruction. Lately, he has been "turning" way too early. It's pretty funny. It really didn't take him long to learn, and he gets so excited everytime he gets the chance to go up or down the stairs. He is so adventurous, curious, and sometimes stubborn. Can they really be stubborn at 11 months old?

We are also trying to teach him "No".

"No, Spence. That's Buddy's food."
"No, Spence. That's Buddy's water."
"No, Spence. That's Buddy's room." (laundry room)
"No, Spence. That's the potty. We don't play in the potty."
"No, Spence. We don't throw our food on the floor to feed Buddy."
"No, Spence. Don't eat that!"

I must say, he's doing pretty good with all the "no's", but usually it takes several at a time. I guess this is normal??? We are having fun though and try to let him be as adventurous as we can and keeping it in safe relms. He, like most, tries to push the limits. How do they learn this so early? Natural instinct I guess.

Walking, well, let's just say, he's getting pretty lazy with trying that. I have to really motivate him to move on his feet instead of his knees, but I know it will come. I can see in his eyes that he wishes he could move as fast as I do, but he's a speed demon on those knees.

Here We Go Again!

Reality is finally setting in for me, and the excitement. I guess it's about time, considering I'm already over 3 months now. Time flies and this has been pretty crazy. The baby is so big, and again they tell me, VERY ACTIVE. We've had two ultrasounds, and both of them showed the baby wiggling, waving, and moving all around. Babies are truly a gift from God and I could sit there for hours just watching in amazement, thinking I still can't believe that little thing is inside me. We have lots to look forward to, and lots to get ready for. It looks like Spence is going to have a new room sooner than we thought, but I'm sure he will adjust fine. He's going to be the best big brother.

The appointments all went very well, except for Spence getting very upset during our first U/S when he saw the lights go off, I layed down on the table, and all of a sudden this lady is doing weird things to mama. He was very confused and VERY upset until I sat up and the lights came back on. Needless to say, my second U/S was great and Dr. Barrett spent a lot of time with me explaining things. Both, the baby and myself, are doing great right now.

Again, our family is very excited about the baby and know the Lord had a different plan in mind for our life. It's been a miraculous blessing and we look forward to sharing this experience once again with all of our family and friends.

Celebrating 30 in NYC!

So I didn't want to forget to tell all of you what a fabulous time we had on trip to New York. Of course I love going and have been often, but this trip was a little different for me. We did things that I've always wanted to do, but never have, and finally did. It was great! First of all, we went ice skating at the Rockefeller Plaza. The weather was beautiful as the snow lightly fell on our heads, and not too cold. But when you are working as hard as I was NOT to fall, then you are almost working up a sweat, no matter what the temp. Spencer, of course, can ice skate fairly well. I have to say, he did loose it once, and it was quite funny. I, on the other hand, have only been one other time in my life, and that's been well over 10 years ago. Time flies! We skated a couple of hours, just long enough to work up a good appetite. We found a tremendous Soup Kitchen that tasted wonderful and hit the spot.

Next, we saw Wicked on Broadway, and I LOVED IT. It was an excellent show and the tickets we had probably made it that much better. Spencer found a man (missing several teeth, I might add) selling them down at Time Square and they were his last two orchestra seats. Although I was VERY hesitant for Spencer to buy them, we made sure they were valid. We were 8 or 9 rows back and in full view. Loved the seats and loved the show even more! Highly recommend.

Finally, last, but not least, the Giants game! The highlight of the trip and an experience I believe everyone should have at least once in their life. There is nothing like NY fans and football too. Although the Giants lost that game, we never regretted one second. We had a blast! It was very cold weather too, but we went prepared for it all. We had our hand warmers, foot warmers, 'toboggans', heavy coats, and hot chocolate of course. However, Spencer really didn't need the heavy coat or warmers because of the 400 lb of "NYC love" sitting right beside him, or halfway on top of him. Put it this way, the only thing that man was wearing in the blistering cold weather was a sweat shirt with sweat pants. Uh, that's it. Very nice guy though.

Oh, how could I forget, the HOTEL! That was an experience all in itself, and unforgettable. The Belnord, do I need to say more. Just a little, maybe. They did not have ESPN, or even know what it was; when you sat down on the FULL size bed, it scooted clear across the room, but that was only 2 feet on both sides until it reached the wall; we woke up SATURDAY morning to the sound of construction on our hallway; and when you opened the bathroom door, watch out because right there is the camode. I must say it was a cost effecient room, and served its purpose, but probably will never stay there again.

We did a lot, saw a lot, ate a lot, and loved every minute of it, but I could not describe in words how bad we both missed our little man. In all honesty, after all the excitement was over, we tried to get a flight home the night before. Oh well, we missed him:)

9 Month "First"

Many things have taken place this month, including several new adventures from our busy little man. He had his 9 month check up about a week ago and as expected, he is getting BIGGER and L-O-N-G-E-R. We are so excited for his continual growth and development, especially after having what his daddy calls an "anorexic baby". We are well beyond that 6th % and now reaching 70th % in weight and 75th % in height. Oh, we can't forget to mention his head is also 70th %, however, we think she was being quite generous on the measurement as you can see. It was quite a shock to us though to find out he had a double ear infection, with pus found in both. They asked several questions only to get "no" for most of the answers. They did say that had his appointment not been that day, we would have been in to see the doc within 2-4 days because it would have gotten so bad. We were very grateful to catch it in the early stages. He's doing great!

We also took Spence to visit my best friends, Misty and Matt, for an evening. The picture is just one example of just how busy he gets. Trust me, it does look a lot worse that what it was, although we never did find where in his mouth he was bleeding from. Misty was so worried about him she called for a couple of days to check on him. I kept reminding her that Spence has not missed a meal so he must be fine! We had a good time and appreciate all their patience.

Lastly, Spence got his first haircut the other night. It was exciting for us and him of course. Spencer and I were both tired of seeing the hair growing over his ears. He was just a jabber box the entire time I was trimming. I must say it looks nice, but too grown up, so I stopped there and didn't cut anymore. He was a trooper and did great. We love our boy and can't believe he will be a year old in 2 months!

Surprise 80th Birthday Party For Memaw

I've just about decided to add another profession into my life...giving surprise parties! How fun! We had a blast and Memaw was completely shocked, and probably a little overwhelmed with excitement. You can see the pictures pretty much say it all. Spencer and I told her we were going to a nice dinner for her birthday and instead we took her to the church where everyone was waiting to surprise her. Before we walked in the lights were off and not a peep was heard. We opened the door and they turned the lights on, played "Happy Birthday" on the piano and sang to her as well. Spencer had also made a slideshow of old and new family photos that continuously ran the entire time. She was so shocked I thought she was going to collapse. She is "80" now. It was a little worrisome at first, but she did fine and tears continued to flow the entire evening. Her daughter from Memphis decided to come in to surprise her too, so that was the highlight of her party.

This was one of the most special moments our family has had and I'm so excited for my grandmother. She deserves it. There were lots of fellowship with family and friends, tons of gifts that she gladly opened, and of course, plenty of yummy cake and food.

Dear Mr. Santa....

December has been filled with lots of new beginnings and transitions for Spence and

our family. We were singing "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth" hoping

he would get them in by Christmas, and he FINALLY got them, plus one. He also got

a nasty fever lasting for 3 days, diarrhea, and some major grouchiness. This only

added to the crud that has hit everyone's home that he already had. In spite of these

things, he is one happy boy with 3 new teeth stillcutting through the gums. They are

quite adorable:)

Spence has also decided that it is now time to become a little more mobile. He started

crawling and loves to crawl straight to our beautiful Christmas tree! And the candles,

and the controller for the tv, and towards all and any cords, and MAMA of course! He

is one busy little boy. There was no gimp leg, no lazy foot, just two knees and two

hands and he was off.

So now that he knows how to crawl, he has also decided it is time to stand up in his

crib. Thank goodness we lowered the mattress, just in time. However, as exciting as

this all has been, it has made naptime a little more difficult. Once he stands in his crib,

he thinks it is time to come out, but he has forgotten one thing... THE NAP. We are

adjusting and learning a lot from this amazing person. He has brought a tremendous

amount of joy to our family and has been our daily Christmas blessing this year. We wish

you all a very Merry Christmas filled with the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Drama, Drama, and more DRAMA!

It's funny to me the things you learn not to do, only AFTER you make the mistake of doing them in the first place. I put Spence down for his nap and to my surprise he slept for almost 2 1/2 hours. Not like him at all, but it was nice and well needed for the busy little man. However, when he woke up, he woke up and was ready to get out of the crib. For the first time ever, I decided to shut his door ALL THE WAY and at first thought this was a great idea. Until...I went to get him and could not get the door open. I called for Spencer to come and try because I seriously could not open it. He tried as well and then ended up unscrewing the door knob, but that didn't work either. Keep in mind Lil' Spence's talking was now turning into getting upset and fussing. After removing the door knob he still could not get it open. I was beginning to get a little upset myself because Spence QUICKLY got extremely agitated and scared. He could hear us out there and it was getting worse and worse. So daddy to the rescue...the door came down! Yes, he had to kick the door in and bust through. Not good, but I was able to get to the little man, who had tears flowing at this point. It's all good now and he's still our happy boy full of energy. Sometimes I still can't believe he is 7 months old.

Our Little "Spider Man"

I could not go a day longer without posting our halloween pics of Lil' Spence. He had a very busy day watching the trick-o-treaters at the office and then traveling down to eat with my parents. I must say he was the most adorable spider I've ever seen. He got lots of attention, and to be honest, I do believe he ate it all up! All though it's been a while since I've blogged, we are so proud of our son and enjoy every second watching him grow. Just to give you an idea of how his world continues to change, he is now...

Sometimes I don't realize just how fast time can fly, but I promise that I never stop taking pictures. Not to make any excuses, we have been extremely busy the last month and a half. We never thought that trying to run a dental practice, remodel a building, have basal cell carcinomas removed, mastitis, little mans first immunizations (nobody could have ever prepared us for the trauma of that experience although there is still much debate about who was hurt worse - Spence or Mom), all while trying to meet the day to day demands of regular work schedules and raising a newborn would require so much time. Let's just say that a week away from everything is just what the doctors ordered. After a week of vacation coming up, we hope to get Spence's announcement mailed out. He changes everyday, and everyday we grow more and more attached. We already feel like such a close family (though Buddy continues to feel neglected and jealous) and we believe that we make an amazing team. One part could not work without the other.

One of the funniest changes he has made are his different ways of talking to us. He has a way to tell us he's hungry( and tells everyone else within a mile who can hear), a way to tell us he's happy and just wants to talk, he tells us when he needs his diaper changed, when he's tired, and when he just wants to be held. Which is probably my favorite because we LOVE to snuggle. Ultimately, we feel very blessed to have a healthy, happy baby boy. It does become a little depressing to see how fast he changes though we do realize that it is all part of a bigger process that will someday end up in the same place that we are now. During the last month and a half he has graduated from the little bed we had inside his crib, many of his first sets of clothing and the majority of his newborn hair. We have taken too many pictures to post here, but please enjoy another great slide show.

Critters and Creatures Everywhere

This year seems to be the year for visitors at our house. However, these are 4-legged visitors and although I definitely consider myself an animal lover, I could do without some of them hanging around. We've found the culprit that went fishing in our pond, figured out who was eating our salt blocks, and as of right now we are NOT taking any walks in our neighborhood. There was also some type of critter waking us up every night between 2 and 4 a.m. talking to a friend in the woods. That got pretty old so we are glad it is gone now. Some of these got caught in the action and some I hope to never see in person.

7 Weeks Old

Spencer and I enjoyed a long weekend together as a family for Memorial holiday, especially our trip to Alabama. It was fun to finally get out on the lake for the first time this year and ride jet skis. We appreciate the Thornton's letting us come down to crash in on their weekend. We enjoyed seeing the girls dance and watching them perform wonderfully. This was Lil' Spence's first long trip in a car over 45 minutes and he pretty much slept the whole time. Actually he has been a great sleeper and for the first time he slept through the night last night. I would love to say I did too, but I was so worried about him and making sure he was alright that until he finally woke up at 6:30 I was a bit nervous.

We love our little boy and love watching him change each day as he grows and develops. Tonight we performed a complete oral exam on him while he was sedated from another full day of adventures. Our findings were WNL (within normal limits) and there are no teeth present at this time. Additional evals to follow.

Okay, just joking, I was going to share with you some of the details from my labor, but instead I will share some of the exciting new changes taking place with Lil' Spence. He will be 6 weeks old Thursday and our 10 pounder is getting soooo BIG. Honestly, it makes me cry to think about how fast time really does go by and before I know it he will be crawling. Everyday is a new adventure for this first time momma, but I'm learning fast!!!
Looking back from his delivery to now...

I never thought I could feel so many different emotions at once until we brought him home for the first time

We will never forget how he quivered his little chin and let out the cutest whimper, now however, is a quivering chin with a huge wail

It's amazing how you can stare at them for hours without blinking an eye because you don't want to miss a thing

I've never apologized so much to so many people for burps, poots, and major poops. But at the same time so excited because I know my little man feels so much relief (even if he does decide to have a blow out on Chanda's mom bedroom quilt-sorry)
Giving him his first bath was so much fun
Letting him sleep in his crib for the first time was so scary

We could not be more proud of our son and to call ourselves his parents. Isn't it funny that you realize as parents, you think your kids are the cutest, the brightest, and are mesmerized by everything they do

When he scratched his face with his little nails and had his first tear, I cried with him

The feeling you get inside when they look up at you and grin and coo for the first time is unbelievable and unforgettable

We absolutely love how he snuggles so close to us when we hold him

I will never forget how sad I was when he grew out of his Newborn clothes, but thankful my little man is growing
His Baby Dedication was wonderful and one of the most precious moments we've shared together as a family

So as we began this journey with my water breaking at 3:30 in the morning, after an intense 3 1/2 hours of pushing, and finally delivering him at 3:43 in the afternoon on April 10, we could not feel more blessed by this miraculous gift from God. We thank Him everyday for giving us this opportunity to be parents and protecting us through the beginning of the pregnancy to the end of the delivery, and to now.

As a 1 month celebration of our son, Spencer Michael, we want to try to share highlights, lowlights, twilights, and flashlights of our life and it's craziness. It's hard to believe that the little man is already potty trained and walking at 1 month old. Okay... we all know that is not true, but we are truly enjoying the bundle of joy the Lord has blessed us with. From the wimpers, to the wails of cries, the bottom "blowouts", the everyday hiccups, our little "binky boy" has without a doubt developed his own unique personality. And trust us, it is not easy for two hardheaded dentist to easily give in to the pacifier, but some things do change :) Everyday with Spence is a new, exciting day and full of new memories of things he does that I know we will never forget as his parents. Parents...that is one word we are still adjusting to. We want to thank those who have taken the time to share in his young life already, whether coming to visit or calling to check on us.
